OMAHA BEACH: The Model Version of D-Day!

THE BEST HISTORY PROJECT EVER

HOW IT WAS MADE:

First, I got a lot of paint and "plaster of paris". Then I bought 2 bags worth of little green army men. Then I obtained balsa wood. Then a big wooden board. Also, I went to the park on a rainy day and got a grocery bag full of sand. And finally, some thick twigs. First off, I painstakingly painted each army man. I made their faces flesh toned, and with minute detailing, and using a toothpick as a brush, painted on the orange diamonds on the backs of their helmets, and the blue ranger diamond patches on their shoulders.

Then, I began making the water. With the plaster of paris, i molded a layer of water onto the front of the board. Then, with a spoon, made indentations in the mixture, to make it look as if there were waves in the water. Then, I painted it. The white spots you see are not due to neglect. They are the waves crashing upon each other. After that, I got a thick brush, and began covering the board with glue, spreading it all over. Then, I gingerly put on the sand. This was easily the worst part of all. The sand took 2 weeks to get rock hard. But during waiting, I completed the project. With the thick twigs, and hot glue, I put together the log ramps at the base of the water. In the real Omaha Beach, these were made to have mines on the front, so if a boat went too far up to the beach, it would explode. After that, I put down the tank obstacles, using cardboard and rust colored paint.

Next came the final phase. I put the army men inside the boats and on the beach. Most dead, few alive. You can see that in the boat, the people are not in good shape. Brains and blood litter the insides of the metal boat. It's a terrifying sight. The men on the beach struggle to make it through the day with their lives intact.

But when the project was done, it was a relief. The planning for this project took almost a month, and the actual making of it took at least 3 weeks. But when it was all said and done, it went down in history as the best school project EVER.
